Step 1: Submit your applicationStep 2: Attend an interview and background checkStep 3: Begin a 60-day observer periodStep 4: Department membership voteStep 5: Start training and one-year probation
The full process typically takes 4–6 weeks to complete.
After your interview and background check, you’ll enter a 60-day observer period. During this time, you’ll have the opportunity to ride along on calls to observe emergency operations, assist with truck checks and station maintenance, and lend a hand where your interests and skills fit best.
This period allows you to experience the work firsthand and gives our department time to get to know you. Attendance at monthly meetings, trainings, and community events is strongly encouraged—you’ll quickly learn that teamwork and camaraderie are at the heart of Toney Fire.
When your observer period ends, your application will go before the department for a membership vote. Upon acceptance, you’ll officially join the team and begin your formal training.
Your first year as a member will serve as your probationary period, during which you’ll complete required training and become a fully active firefighter or support member.
By checking this consent box, I hereby authorize Toney Volunteer Fire & Rescue to conduct a background investigation as part of my application for membership. This investigation may include, but is not limited to:
